Positive Behavior Interventions and Support & SEL: The past two weeks our counselors have been visiting the Advisory classes of our 9th and 10th grade students to discuss the important topic of empathy. In additional to this important discussion, counselors also want our students to know how to access social and emotional supports at school when they are feeling down, stressed, or need support navigating peer conflict, classes, and beyond.
College Application Week: The annual College Application Week, directed by our counseling team, begins on Monday, October 4th where our seniors will participate in an assembly including college representatives. Counselors will be assisting seniors with completing college applications on Oct. 5th and 6th. Good luck seniors!

Freshmen Elections Info: October 7th, Student Government Freshmen Elections meeting in room 2121 at 7:00 a.m. Oct. 11th, Applications due by 7:00 a.m. Oct 13th, primary voting in Advisory. Oct. 20th, Finalist videos shown in Advisory. Oct. 21st, vote for freshmen officers in Advisory. Good luck freshmen!
PTSA Hawk Stash: The PTSA has assembled a pantry named the “Hawk Stash” with foodstuffs that can be distributed to students in need. The pantry is well-stocked and will be open to any student on October 13th, (the day prior to Fall Break) to pick up bagged food items for fall break.
Makeup Picture Day: The makeup picture day has changed. The new date is October 11th starting at 7:00 a.m. Just a reminder that all students must have their picture taken if they have not yet. There is no charge to have the picture taken. This picture is used for their ID cards, yearbook and Skyward photo.
Civics Test Requirement: Per state law, in order to graduate, all seniors must take and pass a basic Civics Test. If your student has not taken, or did not pass this test, they should have received two emails through their school email giving them instructions on how to take this test through their canvas account. PSAT Test Info: Attention juniors who wish to take the PSAT, it will be administered on Tuesday, October 13th. The fee is $20 and the online registration is through Total Registration. The PSAT is the only means by which to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, as well as wonderful practice for the ACT and SAT. Online registration ends on Friday, October 8th. AP Test Info: It is time to register and pay for your 2022 AP exams. Please refer to the detailed letter below for a more thorough explanation of this process. You can also contact shannon.kershaw@canyonsdistrict.org with any questions or concerns.
FAFSA Completion Open House will be hosted by Alta High for seniors to get expert help completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Please join us on October 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and you’ll be eligible to apply for a FAFSA Completion Scholarship from the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority.
Creative Writing: Students interested in submitting work for the Fall Plume Award Contest may write a 200 word max theme: “Out of Time”. Submit to Mme De Friez in room 2216. First prize is 50$ and a publication; runner up earns 25$ and a publication. This contest is schoolwide, in collaboration with the school newspaper. Euphony Staff and Journalism students pick the top 4 each semester. The student body then votes for their favorite. The winners of each semester have a run-off. We look forward to your submissions!
Math Club: For students interested in joining the Math Club, the first meeting is on Tuesday October 5 at 2:30 in Room 2105 (Ms. Price). The goal of Math Club is to discuss math with peers and to prepare for math competitions. The club looks great on college applications, helps students to qualify for the math cord and increases their chance of earning the Sterling Scholar for math. It also challenges students to expand their mathematical knowledge beyond the topics discussed in class.
