A temporary split-schedule has been announced for Alta High, effective Wednesday, Oct. 7.
The split-schedule opens the door for students to return to campus for classes while also decreasing the number of students on campus at any one time. It’s hoped this schedule will reduce the number of students quarantined after a possible exposure to COVID-19, better support physical distancing, and supplement existing contact tracing efforts.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with the schools, as well as the rate of transmission in the community, prompted the decision to return to on-campus learning in smaller numbers. The number of cases associated with Canyons schools are available on the District’s data dashboard.
The new schedule replaces the online-only learning model that was put into place Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Alta High in response to increases in positive cases of the novel coronavirus, coupled with a significant number of students who had been placed on quarantine because of a possible exposure.
Alta parents and guardians on Monday received information about when students are scheduled to attend.
When students are not at school, their learning will be supported through Canvas.
It is hoped that students will return to on-campus learning on a regular schedule on Monday, Oct. 26. Parents will receive updates so they can plan for their families accordingly.
However, if confirmed active COVID-19 cases associated with the schools remain at a concerning level, the temporary schedule may remain intact or other additional precautionary measures may need to be taken after CSD consults with the Salt Lake County Health Department.
After-school activities and sports events will continue as scheduled in line with the guidelines established by the Utah High School Activities Association and health authorities. Those guidelines include required temperature and symptom checks as part of student participation.
To lessen the number of COVID-19 cases associated with the schools, CSD again asks the community for continued adherence to health and safety protocols such as mask wearing and physical distancing.
