Week of September 20-24, 2021

We are an inclusive learning community with a tradition of inspiring, supporting, and collaborating with students
as they prepare to be engaged citizens in their pursuit of continuous success.

  • Positive Behavior Interventions and Support: We are focused on highlighting positive behavior at Alta High by reminding and re-teaching students about our SOAR creed: to be safe, organized, actively engaged, and respectful. In light of recent less-than-stellar behavior by a few of our students, we are working to ensure that our school culture is positive and safe.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences are this week!  On Monday (9/20) and Tuesday, (9/21) Parent Teacher Conferences will commence. Patrons must sign up for an appointment, which can be either virtual or in-person.  For those attending in-person, conferences will be held in teacher’s classrooms.  See instructions about how to sign up. The window to sign up will close at noon on Monday, September 20th.
  • The Hawkeye (School Newspaper) & Yearbook students have been busy interviewing students and writing new stories for Alta’s online news site. Please read more at https://altahawkeye.org/.  New stories this week include a response to TikTok’s “Devious Lick” fiasco, Homecoming Week, Fall Sports, and more! The Yearbook Staff has also distributed this year’s student quote surveys through the English classes. If your student does not have an English class, they can pick one up from Mrs. Ferguson in room 1310. Surveys are due by October 15th.
  • A FAFSA Completion Open House will be hosted by Alta High for seniors to get expert help completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Please join us on October 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and you’ll be eligible to apply for a FAFSA Completion Scholarship from the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority.
  • Attention Juniors: Alta is offering the PSAT to interested juniors on Wednesday, October 13th. The fee is $20 and registration is through Total Registration. Please see the information below for additional details and the link to register. The PSAT is the only means to qualify for National Merit Scholarship consideration, as well as wonderful practice for the SAT and ACT. Please contact our testing coordinator, Shannon Kershaw, with any questions.
  • Sterling Scholar Applications: For students interested in applying for Sterling Scholar this year, please pick up an application in Ms. Heffner’s classroom beginning on Monday, September 20th.  Thank you!
  • AP Test Info: It is time to register and pay for your 2022 AP exams. Please refer to the detailed letter below for a more thorough explanation of this process.  You can also contact Ms. Kershaw shannon.kershaw@canyonsdistrict.org with any questions or concerns.
  • Alta High Parking: A reminder to our patrons to please use the newly constructed drop off loop and visitor parking in the lot adjacent to the Performing Arts Center on the west side of the school. The newly constructed main entrance adds a safety measure to the school by having all school visitors funnel through the new main entrance and into the main office.  Student drop-offs/pick-ups and visitor parking are no longer allowed in the lot east of the school. During school hours please avoid driving in the bus area to prevent collisions with buses or blocking their entry/exit.
  • PTSA: Support the PTSA by purchasing a comfy Alta blanket! Blankets make great gifts for your students and keep you warm at all the Alta outdoor events in the fall and spring.  See designs on the flyer below.  Order at this link. Supplies are limited, so order yours today!
