There is no school today because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We look forward to seeing tomorrow for the beginning of second semester. Final grades for the previous quarter will be posted this week. As a reminder, some classes on your student’s schedule may be changing with shifts to a new quarter. Student Body Officers Elections: Current Juniors, are you interested in being a Student Body Officer for the 2025 – 2026 school year? There will be an informational meeting about SBO elections on Tuesday, February 18th in the library during Advisory.

Yearbook Senior Tributes/Baby Ads: If you are a senior grade level student and are interested in purchasing space for a personal baby ad, please see the attached flier regarding steps on how to arrange for that.
Attention Seniors!: The priority deadline for the Opportunity Scholarship is Monday, January 27th2025. The final deadline is Friday, March 21st. “Attention Juniors!: The ACT will be administered at Alta High School on Wednesday, March 12th 2025. The ACT is provided free to Juniors and all Juniors are pre-registered.
Sycamore Learning will conduct an informative seminar on March 1st, 2025, to help students prepare for the exam. Details on how to register and pay for the seminar are enclosed and can be found in the Counseling Center.

Parents of Juniors: It is now time for our junior girls to apply for Utah Girls State. Utah Girls State is a week-long program created with the purpose of educating Utah’s youth about their duties, privileges, rights, and responsibilities of citizenship. Participants graduating from Girls State will receive 3 Political Science 2920 credits from Weber State University.

U of U Engineering Summer 2025 Internship: The application is open and will close on February 15th . This is an 8-week program that will run from June 9th until August 1st . Interns will be matched with a current faculty member to work in their lab on research projects throughout the summer. This is an unpaid internship, interns are expected to work up to 30 hours per week. Students who will be graduating in 2026 or 2027 may apply.

- 1 Letter of Recommendation from Science, Math, Technology, or Engineering Teacher
- Write a 2-page essay response to a prompt on the application

Monthly Digital Citizenship Tip: Explaining the News: Discussing the news with your kids is a great way to help them think critically about current events and process what they’re seeing. Common Sense Media provides helpful tips for families concerned about the impact of current events on kids. News stories can often be dramatic and may include disturbing images or information. Talking about the news as a family helps everyone stay informed while checking in on how each member is feeling and responding. Summer Opportunity for Female Students: “Our Summer Programs help high school girls and nonbinary students build coding skills, explore career pathways in tech, and connect with a supportive community–no program fees or prior coding experience required!” If you would like further information, please reference the attached flier.
Alta High School Lost and Found: We are cleaning out our lost and found located in the attendance office. If your student has misplaced something you have been looking for, please check the lost and found as soon as you can. The lost and found will be cleaned out on January 24th. Any items left will be donated.
January 2025 Hawk Hero’s: Each month two students from every grade are selected to be a Hawk Hero. These students are selected from nominations from students, parents, teachers, administration, and other staff members. These students have all done something that positively impacts other students and Alta High School as a whole. Please take the time to read through the list of January’s Hawk Hero’s.
