  • Winter Activities & Celebrations: We want to celebrate all of our teams who have recently competed for Region 8 honors and will be competing for State honors in the near future.  Let’s celebrate! Our Drill Team made it as far as the State quarterfinals last weekend; our swim team had a strong showing at the Region 8 Championships over the weekend taking 2nd place; our wrestlers also hosted an impressive sectional competition last weekend and qualified wrestlers for State; our Debate Team impressed with a 2nd place showing at the Skyridge Falcon Frenzy Tournament over the weekend; three artists were recently chosen to represent Alta at the prestigious Springville Art Show this spring, and our girls’ and boys’ basketball teams continue to post strong showings as they prepare for their respective State tournaments in the coming weeks!
  • Final Call for Senior Tributes in the Yearbook: Today, Monday, February 7th is the last day to order a yearbook senior tribute. See attached flyer below for additional information!
  • Last Night of Ballyhoo” play tickets are now on sale! Tickets can be purchased at ShoVation.com and are $9 in advance and $10 at the door. Dates of the show are February 16-19th at 7:00 p.m. with Brooklyn Cast on Wednesday/Friday and Atlanta Cast on Thursday/Saturday.
  • Kitchen Cafeteria Update: We have had inquiries about our kitchen which, like many construction projects of late, has taken longer than expected.  The good news is that we are now able to use the kitchen serving areas to distribute sack lunches, salads, and protein plates, but our the appliances and warming overs have either not arrived nor have been set for use. We realize this situation is less-than-ideal for our students and patrons, but we thank you all again for your patience.
  • Valentine’s Day Surprises! Do you want to send your student a Valentine surprise at school? Alta’s Peer Leadership team is selling lip suckers for only $1.25.   • Updated: Free Mental Health Screening & Services. Alta High and Canyons School District have noticed an increase in the need for mental and emotional health supports for our students.  To help address this need, on February 17TH, the District is hosting a free mental health screening at Eastmont Middle School from 4:00-8:00 p.m.  Students ages 10-18 and their parents are encouraged to attend.  Registration is required prior to attending: https://calendly.com/csd-mental-health-screening/mental-health-screener-night-mms.  See flyers below for information on additional screening dates.
  • Battle of the Bands is coming on Thursday, February 24th: Any student band group who is interested can apply by clicking on the link on the flyer below or coming to see Ms. Karren in the Attendance Office.  Applications are due by February 20th.  Thanks!
  • Online Registration for the Junior ACT will take place during ADVISORY this year in the COMMONS. Students with last names A-L will register on Thursday, February 24th. Students with last names M-Z will complete their registration on Friday, February 25th. Please bring your charged Chromebooks with you to the Commons. For those students with morning CTEC or who are absent on these days, there will be multiple make-up sessions available the week of February 28 through March 4. It is very important that our juniors complete this process prior to taking the ACT on Tuesday, March 8th.   • Yearbook Orders: It’s time to reserve your copy of the school yearbook if you haven’t already done so. Yearbooks are now available through February 27th for $58. (Book price increases March 1, 2022 to $60 and extra books will be $60 on yearbook day.)  To order a yearbook, you may do one of the following.  Bring in or mail a check for $58 to the school’s Main Office or purchase a book through Skyward. To purchase through Skyward: Go to fee management / make payment / optional fees. Click on yearbook. You also may go online to https://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A08724530 to order your book. The first two options cost less because you don’t have to pay a processing fee. Please note, we will order a few extra books for sale in May, but they go fast.  NOW is the time to order your yearbook.
  • Interested in Film Making? Enter the 12th Annual Canyons District Film Festival. Go to filmfestival.canyonsdistrict.org for details!  There are six film categories and a poster contest students may enter, click on any of the links below to learn more or go to canyonsdistrict.org/filmfestival .  Submissions can be submitted online and are due April 12, 2022. Winners will be announced at the Film Festival Red Carpet Awards on April 28th, 2022.
  • Math Workouts & NHS Tutors: Our National Honor Society students are available on Monday, February 7th to help with tutoring in core subjects.  Should your student need additional help in math, science, social studies, or ELA, help is available.  See NHS flyer below for more details.  Math Workouts are a new way to stay in math “shape” and will be held from 2:30-4:00 after school beginning February 18th in room 2103.  See math teachers for specific locations. Math tutoring is also available daily during Advisory in room 1118.
  • ACT Prep: For students interested in ACT prep, the Alta Math Department will begin math review sessions that run from February 1st thru March 8th.  These sessions are free to students and are offered Monday thru Thursday in Mr. Keller’s classroom, 2201.
  • PTSA Board Nominations: It’s that time of year when the PTSA is filling positions for next year’s board. We’d love to have you join the group! Please click on this link to discover which position matches your skills or interests.
  • The Founders Day Celebration (PTA) is a physical event at the Capitol Building which will take place on Wednesday, February 16, 10 am-2 pm. The first two hours include a tour of the Capitol and a Time Certain in a Galley for a special resolution regarding the 125th anniversary of Utah PTA. The second two hours, beginning at noon, are reserved for a gathering for our region (district) alone with our own legislators. All of the legislators who represent us have been invited and have accepted, so this is a terrific opportunity for you to meet and converse with our representatives at the Capitol. We will be in the Aspen room, which is in the East Senate Building. Info can be found here.  There is a cost of $10 for this event.
  • Attention Junior Families: The state ACT will be administered to all Alta juniors on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Alta is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Sycamore Learning Company again this year and will be able to offer a test prep course on Saturday, February 26, 2022, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Commons. Please see the flyer below for details on how to register. This is for JUNIORS ONLY.  There are a limited number of spots available, so make sure to reserve your seat soon! If you have questions, please contact your student’s counselor or Shannon Kershaw, Alta’s Test Coordinator.
