- Positive Behavior & Celebrations: Against all odds, and now that the end of the school year is upon us, the kitchen is at last at the point of full-functionality. The good news is that hot meals will be served this week beginning on Wednesday! Students will need to have their Alta ID cards/lunch number with them or have their ID info on their phones in order to receive a school lunch. Students were treated to pizza this past Wednesday for lunch, which was a very welcome change to the current fare we’ve served all year long.
- AP Testing 2022: AP Students and Parents, please refer to the AP schedule included in this newsletter to make sure you know the date, time and location for any AP exam(s) you are taking this year. Please also take note of the items to bring and not bring. Students will need to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the exam start time to get checked in and find their assigned seat. They will be excused from any class time they miss due to testing. If you have any questions, please contact Alta’s AP Coordinator, Shannon Kershaw at shannon.kershaw@canyonsdistrict.org.
- Aspire Make-Up Testing TBD: Due to some technical glitches that affected testing district-wide during our 9th and 10th grade Aspire testing last week, and in order to reach our test participation requirement, we plan to schedule two additional make-up testing days. We are grateful for students who did their best on the exams and who persevered in spite of the technical issues. While some of the details for these make-up days have yet to be determined, we anticipate beginning this process by the end of this week. Students who need to complete the testing will be excused from class to complete their tests. We remind patrons that Opt-Out forms must be completed and submitted to the Attendance Office in order for us to excuse students from this testing. Thank you for your patience with this important process.
- Hope Week: This week, the Alta High Hope Squad is focused on spreading kindness and positivity throughout the school. All students are invited to participate in these activities including: a kindness raffle, hope notes, a scavenger hunt and more. We thank our Hope Squad students and advisers for organizing a much-needed week of positivity!
- Attention Seniors! Per state law, in order to graduate, all seniors must take and pass a basic Civics Test. If you have not taken, or did not pass this test, you should have received two emails through your school email giving you instructions on how to take this test through your canvas account. - Updated Graduation Music Tryouts: Musical Auditions will take place on Wednesday, April 27th at 2:45 p.m. in the choir room 1607 (contact April Iund). This year’s theme for graduation is: “Often when you think you’re at the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else.” -Mister Rogers
- Our Graduation Letter with updated info for parents/guardians of seniors is posted in the ‘FLYERS’ section below. Graduation will be on May 25th at the University of Utah at 10:00 a.m.!
- The Alta Art Show will be held this week in the Library Media Center from the 26th – 29th. We will be having an open house from 3:00-4:000 p.m. on Wednesday the 27th if you would like to come view the show!

- Canyoneering Academy Presents: What are some practical ways parents can keep their kids safe online? How can families most effectively use Skyward and Canvas to monitor their student’s progress at school? What mental wellness resources and 504 supports are available at school? These topics, and more, are the focus of a free Parent Information Night that Canyons School District is sponsoring as part of an ongoing Canyoneering Academy lecture series. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 6-8:30 p.m. at the District Office, 9361 S. 300 East in Sandy. The evening kicks off with a 50-minute keynote address by Utah author Jason Hewlett, a professional speaker known for his “family-friendly” comedic style and inspiring messages about leadership and reaching one’s potential. Afterward, attendees will have their choice of participating in two of four breakout sessions on the topics listed above. Spanish translators will be on hand at the event. - Jr. Women in Business Scholarship Program: The SouthValley Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 2022/2023 school year Jr. WIB Scholarship Program. Current juniors may apply to participate in the program next year, as a senior. A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to female high school seniors at each high school within Canyons School District. These seniors are selected for their outstanding achievements in education and the community. Scholarships are awarded at the completion of the program and are generously donated by WCF Insurance.
