A long-standing tradition of excellence continues at Alta High School.
In the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings, Alta placed No. 9 in the Salt Lake metro area, earning a spot among the region’s top schools.
Across Canyons School District, families are taking notice. More than 8 in 10 local high school students choose Canyons schools, with hundreds of students enrolling from outside District boundaries. The home of the Hawks alone enrolled 103 out-of-district students this year, a strong signal of confidence in Alta’s academics and extracurricular activities, from championship sports teams to award-winning robotics, Esports, and engineering programs.
“Our high schools continue to stand out within an already high-performing state,” said Tom Sherwood, the District’s Director of High Schools. “That consistency speaks to the strength of our programs and the outcomes our students are achieving.”
The rankings are based on key indicators such as college readiness, state test performance, access to advanced coursework, and graduation rates — all areas where Alta students demonstrate strong results.
Alta’s placement reflects both its legacy and its continued commitment to preparing students for success after high school.
