Coach Blake Burdette has been selected as Alta High’s next head football coach. A former player on the history-making 2004 University of Utah football team, Blake Burdette also was on the U.S. National Rugby Team and coached a university rugby team to a national championship.
Former Utah Warrior and U. tight end Blake Burdette accepted the position this week. He was chosen through a competitive hiring process by a panel of Alta High parents, teachers, support staff, and school and district-level administrators. His experience as both an athlete and coach on the national stage will be key in continuing the Hawk football program’s tradition of excellence.
The Olympus High graduate earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah, where he was a two-year starter for then-Coach Urban Meyer. Burdette was a part of the U.’s 12-0 season in 2004, which was capped by a win at the 2005 Fiesta Bowl. While a student, he also played for the U.’s rugby team. He was a four-time All-American in the sport, and in 2007 competed in the Rugby World Cup in France with the national team.
Burdette’s coaching experience includes leading rugby squads at the U. and Pennsylvania State University. Under Burdette, the Utes won a national title. He also has been an assistant football coach at Olympus and Skyline high schools.
Professionally, Burdette has worked as a financial analyst and marketing and sales director.
