March 10, 2025 Weekly Newsletter

Happy Monday morning!

We hope you and your students enjoyed the weekend.

This Wednesday we will be on an alternate bell schedule as our Juniors take the ACT. Only Juniors will be present in the morning while they take the ACT. The remainder of the day teachers will be available for consultation time.  That will be from 12:50-2:25pm.  Please see the announcement below for further information.

Here are several useful pieces of information.  There is a lot. Please skim entire newsletter so you do not miss out on important information.

Student Chromebook Assessment Survey: During Advisory this morning, March 10, students will be completing a Diagnosis and computer health assessment on their Chromebooks.  This assessment will help inform our school of technological needs and computer standings.  Please make sure your student attends advisory and brings their Chromebook.  This is mandatory for all students.

Digital Citizenship Message: How to Help Kids Spot Misinformation and Disinformation Monthly Digital Literacy Tip: A lot of news media content is designed to grab our attention and keep us engaged. Knowing that the news we consume can be biased or misreported, it’s crucial that all of us—especially young people—learn to decode the information we encounter. Click here to learn more.

CLASS Officer Elections: Current Freshman, sophomores, and juniors: are you interested in being a Class Officer for the 2025 – 2026 school year?  Applications are due on March 24th by 3:00pm.  There is an informational meeting, for students, on Monday March 3rd in the Library during advisory. Students will apply at schoolelections.canyonsdistrict.org . For more information, you can contact Shaley Louder at shaley.louder@canyonsdistrict.org

Prom 2025:  Alta’s Prom promises to be memorable this year as it will be held at the Utah State Capitol building.  The theme is: “Next to You”.  The event will take place on Saturday, March 29th from 8:30-11:00 p.m.  The dress will be formal attire. Tickets are now on sale on the school website.

Vaccine Clinic for Students: No cost required vaccines for CSD students that qualify. March 12, 2025 at the district offices from 3:00-6:00pm.  Please reference the attached fliers.

ACT information: This Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, all 11th grade students in the Canyons School District have the opportunity to take the ACT for free as part of the district’s college readiness focus. Alta 11th grade students are already registered for the ACT, which is used by many colleges and universities as part of their admission requirements, scholarship opportunities, and for NCAA eligibility. It is also a strong predictor of college success.
The Exam is scheduled for Wednesday, March 12th, 2025. Our 9th, 10th and 12th grade students will be on a late start schedule this day (see below). Please be aware that the regular bell schedule will be modified; however, students are encouraged to consult with teachers, as needed, beginning at 12:50 p.m. The ACT is for juniors only. Check-in for the ACT will start at 7:15 a.m. and testing will begin promptly at 7:40 a.m. The ACT requires that all students taking the test have a valid and original picture ID for verification.
For the test itself, students should bring a district issued Chromebook (fully charged), an appropriate calculator, and #2 pencil (see actstudent.org for additional information). Other than an approved calculator and district issued Chromebook, no electronic devices are allowed in the testing room. Please leave all cell phones, iPods, watches, air pods, and electronic devices at home. Students will not be allowed to access electronic devices during breaks.
Juniors will complete a Chromebook check and received information on how to create a MyACT account during English classes on Monday, February 24th and Tuesday, February 25th. The MyACT account will provide students with access to their scores. This process must be completed within 2 days of the ACT test in order for students to have access to online scoring.
Attached below you will find further information about this year’s ACT and in case your student missed the classroom presentation, information on how to make sure your students’ Chromebook is up to date.
