Positive Behavior Interventions and Support & SEL curriculum: Canyons District remains committed to supporting students in building the life skills, or character traits, that contribute to success in life and school. In support of that goal, the Administration is proposing to create a social-emotional learning curriculum developed by in-house instructional experts in alignment with Utah State Board of Education requirements and the community’s needs. At the Tuesday, Oct. 5 meeting of the Canyons Board of Education, the Administration will propose a timeline for the development of this curriculum. For more information about the curriculum proposal, and Canyons District’s plans to continue providing lessons on such positive traits as kindness, respect, goal-setting, and resiliency, please see our school website or the District’s website, canyonsdistrict.org.
Parent Teacher Conferences: We thank those who participated in our Parent Teacher Conferences last week. We would like your feedback about what went well and where we can improve. A survey will be sent to our school community in the coming weeks to gather this feedback. We appreciate your input!
Creative Writing: Students interested in submitting work for the Fall Plume Award Contest may write a 200 word max theme: “Out of Time”. Submit to Mme De Friez in room 2216. First prize is 50$ and a publication; runner up earns 25$ and a publication. This contest is schoolwide, in collaboration with the school newspaper. Euphony Staff and Journalism students pick the top 4 each semester. The student body then votes for their favorite. The winners of each semester have a run-off. We look forward to your submissions!
Math Club: For students interested in joining the Math Club, the first meeting is on Tuesday October 5 at 2:30 in Room 2105 (Ms. Price). The goal of Math Club is to discuss math with peers and to prepare for math competitions. The club looks great on college applications, helps students to qualify for the math cord and increases their chance of earning the Sterling Scholar for math. It also challenges students to expand their mathematical knowledge beyond the topics discussed in class.
A Night of Shakespeare: The “Night of Shakespeare” will be held in the PAC Auditorium at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 29th. Tickets are $5 and cash or check is preferred- patrons can buy tickets in the Main Office ahead or at the door.
Makeup Picture Day: The makeup picture day has changed. The new date is October 11th starting at 7:00 a.m. Just a reminder that all students must have their picture taken if they have not yet. There is no charge to have the picture taken. This picture is used for their ID cards, yearbook and Skyward photo.
PTSA: A reminder to students who are interested to submit their work for Reflections by Oct. 17th to our PTSA. Additional information can be found on the Alta website. Also, a big thank you to Kim Affleck and her team for putting on a great staff dinner this past week. We also greatly appreciate all of those families who donated their time, food items and those who donated the cost of a meal. Without all of your support this meal would not have been possible.
A FAFSA Completion Open House will be hosted by Alta High for seniors to get expert help completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Please join us on October 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and you’ll be eligible to apply for a FAFSA Completion Scholarship from the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority.
